Volunteer with Us
Volunteering is hugely rewarding. We know. All the Trustees for Amazing Children Uganda are volunteers and we enjoy donating our time and efforts to this wonderful cause. You can develop new skills, share the skills you have developed in your career, or just meet new people.
Below are some of the volunteer opportunities that we have. If you don’t see anything you fancy in the list below, then please check out our Fundraise for Us page for more great ways to help us raise funds.
Current Volunteering Opportunities
We are looking for Fundraising Volunteers to help us raise the vital funds to support children off the streets and into education. Fundraising Volunteers must be self-starters who can run a fundraising activity from start to finish. Please take a look at our Fundraise for Us page if you are interested in volunteering in this way.
Information for volunteers
What do I have to do?
That depends on the volunteer post. Have a look at the description of the role for more details. We usually specify the type of work and the time required. We don’t just look for people to shake collection tins (although that does help!) We want people who will actively take part in helping us deliver our mission.
If you are still unclear then contact us and we can talk it through with you.
How do I apply?
Download and read the Volunteer Role document. Then send in your CV to firstname.lastname@example.org and tell us why you want the post. We usually have a selection process for specific roles and will notify you on the result.
What will I get out of it?
Everyone has different reasons for volunteering, and we will ask you what you want to get out of it before you start. For volunteers who do a great job we will give you an up to date reference, recommendations on LinkedIn and you can put the role in your CV or LinkedIn voluntary activities section.
What if I don’t have much experience, or “too much”?
A lot of people want to volunteer to get experience. We love that attitude. The Volunteer Role document will tell you how much experience you need as a minimum. But if you have a lot more experience and just want to use your skills for a good cause, then you will certainly never be penalised. We might ask you to work with another volunteer who has less experience, but that is up to you.
What is the time commitment?
The time commitment varies with each volunteer role and will be described in the downloadable document. These are usually estimates based on the type of work. For some roles (e.g. where you are working on an event) there might be peaks and troughs in the time required. We can talk all of that through with you when you apply.
Can I get time off work to do it?
Some organisations give employees time off for volunteering. You will need to check your company’s policy. However, if you need any help convincing your boss that it is a great cause, we will certainly do all we can!
Will you cover my expenses?
We will cover reasonable volunteer expenses such as travel and food within certain limits and within reason. You will need to keep receipts. Travel by limousine and tea at the Ritz will not be covered; we pride ourselves on being low cost
What about health and safety?
You are responsible for keeping yourself safe, but we do carry insurance that covers volunteers acting under direction from us. The key is to be sensible about the activities you engage in. If in doubt, check first!
Can I go to Uganda?
Yes and no. We think it is valuable for volunteers to really understand the work that Amazing Children Uganda does. If you want to visit the project, then please let us know as early as possible so we can advise on the best dates/times to travel.
You will have to cover all of your own travel and expenses on the trip.
What support will I get?
As much as you need to carry out the role. That will include mentoring and support from our experienced Trustees and help from other volunteers.
We have recruited new excellent volunteers for the following roles:
